Obituary for Marvin Zimmerman

Marvin Zimmerman
Marvin L. Zimmerman, 86, of Mercersburg, died peacefully in his sleep on September 24, 2017 at his home.
Born October 17, 1930 at Little Cove, he was a son of the late Frank and Martha Phenicie Zimmerman.
Marvin served with the US Army in Korea during the conflict as a Sergeant and was awarded a Combat Infantry Badge and Korean service medal with 2 bronze stars. Following his discharge, he married Jean E. Mills Zimmerman on February 17, 1954. In March of that year he bought a farm that became known as ZIm-Mar Farm of Mercersburg. Marvin actively farmed for 54 years. In retirement, he worked part time for Loudon Industries.
Marvin loved his tractors and enjoyed showing them at Two Top, Fulton Fall Fest, and Twin Bridges. He won best in show with his Case 630 at the 2014 Fulton Fall Fest.
He was a faithful member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church of Upton. Other memberships include the former Edward Parnell Ruritan Club, life member of American Legion Post #517 Mercersburg, Franklin County Holstein Assoc., National Holstein Assoc., and PA Farmers Assoc.
Surviving family include his wife, Jean E. Mills Zmmerman, three children, Garry M. (Sandra F.) Zimmerman of Chambersburg, Kim Z. (William) Murdaugh and Victoria D. (Garry) Martin both of Mercersburg, 4 grandchildren, Shawn Zimmerman, Amber Osbaugh, Autumn Reichard, and Seth Martin, 11 great grandchildren, and a brother, Robert (Betty) Zimmerman of Chambersburg.
Marvin was preceded in death by siblings, Helen Rank and Darrell Zimmerman.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM September 28th with Reverend Alan R. Wilson officiating at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 8835 Lemar Road, Greencastle. Burial at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
Viewing 6 to 9 PM Wednesday at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, and 1 hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Stephens Lutheran Church, 8835 Lemar Road, Greencastle, PA 17225.
