Obituary for George Keefer

George Edward Keefer, 93, of Fort Loudon, passed away September 5, 2017, at the Newton Baker VA Center, Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Born March 18, 1924 at home in Fort Loudon, he was a son of the late Harry Helser and Achsa Keefer.
Ed graduated from Lemasters High School and joined the army during World War II.
In 1946, George returned home on the USS Enterprise after suffering an injury while fighting in Europe. After returning from the war and moving back to Fort Loudon, he worked as a poleman, climbing and working on the power line poles. Ed loved the outdoors tremendously and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a fan of baseball and boxing. Ed was a lifelong member of the Wesley Yeager Post 606 American Legion in Fort Loudon.
Ed is survived by five nieces including: Mary (Eugene) Hawbaker of Lemasters, Lee Ann (Danny) Witter-Keefer of St. Thomas, Pamela Diane (Palmer) Brookhart of Fort Loudon, Diane (Arlyn) Saltzman of Greencastle, and Suella (Nelson) Pensinger-Gothie of Breezewood. Ed is also survived by 8 great-nieces and 5 great-nephews. Ed is preceded in death by two brothers, John T. Keefer, and Charles L. Keefer, and two nephews, John M. Keefer and Charles Keefer.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM September 11, 2017 at Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg, with Pastor Randal Zeiler officiating. There will be no viewing. Military graveside services are by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Honor Guard. Arrangements by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg.
