Obituary for Joseph "Joe" Rotz III

Joseph "Joe" Rotz III
Joseph Samuel Rotz, III, 80, of Fort Loudon, died July 31, 2017.
Born September 20, 1936, he was the son of the late Joseph L. and Gladys Pauline Nelling Rotz.

He was a graduate of the former Lemasters High School and was a dairy farmer for most of his life. After retiring from farming, he was employed at Mt. Parnell Fisheries for several years. He was employed by Peters Township and served as a Township Supervisor for 24 years. Additionally, he was chairman of the Agriculture Preservation Board, a Democratic Committeeman, and a charter member and past president of the Fort Loudon Ruritan Club, serving 52 years. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ of Fort Loudon.

Joe loved farming and said he always felt closer to God when he was working in the fields. His greatest joy was being with his family, hunting, vacationing, holiday dinners, and taking the little ones on Gator rides.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Anna Overcash Rotz who passed away February 24, 2017. He is survived by a son, J. Samuel Rotz, IV (Corinna) of Ft. Loudon, two daughters, Lori J. Rotz of Monroe, NJ, and Diana L. Rotz & companion Matt Hale of Ft. Loudon. Four grandchildren, Joseph S. Rotz, V (Arin), Cayla D. Richards (Mike), Zachary A. Long, and Jessica P. Long and companion Tyler Smith. Seven great grandchildren, Reanna Jo, Rhyder, and Pacey Richards, Joseph S. Rotz, VI “Jase”, Korbyn Rotz, Graysen and Emersyn Smith. A sister, Barbara (Richard) Hurst, brothers, Richard (Chandra), William (Kim), and Carl (Brenda), and sister-in-law, Barbara Rotz. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as sisters Nancy Snider and Ruth Rotz, and brother John Rotz.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 4, 2017 at Trinity UCC of Ft. Loudon, with Pastors Loy Garber and Jan Bye officiating. Burial will be at Stenger Hill Cemetery, Ft. Loudon. Visitation 5 to 8 PM Thursday, August, 3, 2017 at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
