Obituary for Earl Mellott

Earl J. Mellott, 81, of Mercersburg, died April 18, 2017 at York Hospital.
Born April 9, 1936 at McConnellsburg, he was a son of the late Rowe C. and Jessie E. Truax Mellott.
Earl was a 1955 graduate of James Buchanan High School. As a young man he worked at the Mercersburg Academy Bookstore and was a licensed barber. Earl retired from Landis Tool Co. of Waynesboro following 26 years of service.
He attended St. Thomas Assembly of God Church.
Earl loved his family especially his grand and great grandchildren. He was a simple man who enjoyed flea markets, mowing his lawn and yard work.
Surviving family include his wife, Mary Jane Burkett Mellott whom he married May 10, 1958. A son Jeffrey E. Mellott and a daughter, Brenda L. (Lester) Risser both of Mercersburg. Five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren. A brother, Paul Mellott of St. Thomas and a sister, Evelyn Theis of Georgetown, Texas. Earl was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Stahl and Madeline Humbert and eight brothers, King, Fred, Grover, Norm, Charles, Richard, Clair, and infant Carl Mellott.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM April 24, 2017 at St. Thomas Assembly of God Church with Pastor Joshua D. Baldwin officiating. Burial will be at Macedonia United Brethren Church Cemetery.
Viewing 6 to 8 PM Sunday at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
