Obituary for Mary Long

Mary Long
Mary E. Long, 82, formerly of St. Thomas, died April 3, 2017, at Providence Place, Chambersburg.
Born April 16, 1934, at Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late David U. and Blanche V. Robinson Armstrong.
Mary was valedictorian of her 1952 graduating class at St. Thomas High School. She married Stanley M. Long on March 21, 1953 at Hagerstown. Mary worked for a short period at Public Opinion and at the St. Thomas Post Office. She was employed for 35 years with DESCOM at Letterkenny Army Depot. Along with Stan she owned and operated Class A Gifts of St. Thomas for a number of years. Mary enjoyed traveling and her grandchildren were very special to her.
Mary was a member of St. Thomas Assembly of God Church, of which her parents were the founders. She taught Sunday school for 56 years and she served her church family as a confident and friend.
Stanley M. Long died January 10, 2017. Surviving family include two sons, Daniel Long & companion Pam Brown of Waynesboro, and Mark & wife Debra Long of Chambersburg. Four grandchildren, Bradley, Annette, Rachel, & Rebekah Long, and four great grandchildren, Kylie, Carter, Joey, and Payton. A sister, Joan Shelly of Coatesville, and a brother, Samuel Armstrong of Ft. Loudon. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve Lewis.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM April 6, 2017 at St. Thomas Assembly of God Church, St. Thomas, with Pastors Josh Baldwin and Alvin J. Hezlep officiating. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
